Cascadia 2019 Schedule
Everyone is welcome; no charge for Cascadia registrants; $12 for others.
Sip and savor your way through a feast of dances named for food and drink. We'll have drinks, main and side dishes and, of course, dessert! Bon apetit!
11:00-12:30 Another Visit with Mr. Shaw — Workshop with Kalia KlibanAndrew Shaw's focus as a dance historian and reconstructor has been the dances published between the 1680s and the 1720s (with a few outliers). We'll take a stroll through that period in this session, sampling the amazing breadth of formations, complexity and mood offered by this rich vein of dance material. Familiarity with triple minor formation is recommended.
Using a couple of different interpretations of "no walk-through," dancers in this fast-moving session will get to stretch their abilities to retain patterns, recover when they go astray, listen to calls in real time and focus on the dancers around them.
3:15-4:30 Keeping the 'play' in Playford — Workshop with Laura Mé SmithNot that any of us have ever encountered (or been accused of being!) the dance police, this workshop will explore how to keep dances infused with light hearted fun while remaining true to their correography and style, keeping in mind the various styles of our fellow dancers in addition to the dance itself. Tall order? Nah! Come find out more. We'll look at some historical dances and some modern ones 'in the style of', as it were.
We encourage you to dress up for the Saturday night dance, but it's not a ball. Dress to have a fun evening!
What's so hard about two-hand turns, corner changes or half heys? Nothing, really, but in certain combinations these basic building blocks of English country dancing can go from "no big deal" to "OMFG!" in a hurry. In this session we'll work through a selection of dances in which challenging choreographies are made out of some very simple elements.
11:40-1:00 — Final Dance Party with Kalia Kliban
