Many people have followed in Cecil Sharp and his pioneering work with historical English dance reconstruction, increasing the pool of knowledge and expanding sources. For some, the primary interest is accuracy; others aim for the art of blending historical dance patterns with our evolving English dance style. This workshop will explore a selection from my favorites of these modern reconstructions.
Very few modern English dance compositions were written in the first half of the 20th Century, but they didn't come into their own until the explosion in creativity set off by Pat Shaw mid-century. Our focus will be on modern dances that flow, and the minor tweaks in timing of figures and transitions that can make major changes in the enjoyment of the dance.
LunchDances selected from the wide repertoire common before 1970, including reconstructions, modern compositions and "traditional" dances, from Sharp, Karpeles, the Kennedys, Heffer & Porter, Pat Shaw, Tom Cook and others.
3:15-4:30 — 2nd Afternoon WorkshopGreat dances with wonderful music created by and/or for Canadians.
